Biography:
Bijan Qutub is Jordanian - Spanish/ Filipino. Born and raised in Amman, Jordan. He discovered his passion for dance at the late age of 19 years old from watching "So You Think You Can Dance USA".
Prior to his professional training, he learned from online dance tutorials in his bedroom until he found the only ballet institute in Jordan. He started training professionally at the late age of 19 at The National Centre for Culture & Arts. He was severely obese; weighing at 135KG/300lbs (Lost 150lbs), with no confidence, self esteem and faced harsh criticism, negativity for being the first male ballet dancer in a conservative country.
Bijan was determined, focused and worked hard to fully dedicate himself to dance. He spent countless hours of dance training with all levels offered at the National Centre for Culture and Arts and afterwards spending hours of working out at the gym. He lost 150lbs and gained a new positive and ambitious outlook on life, Dance changed him physically and mentally. His passion, dedication, persistence and hard work were the keys to his success and that encouraged many people of all ages to appreciate how positively influential the arts can be.
From a population of 6 million, he is the only male Jordanian Ballet dancer. Bijan is a soloist with Misk Dance Company at The National Centre for Culture & Arts/ King Hussein Foundation in Amman, Jordan. Trained with Ms. Rania Kamhawi & Ms. Svetlana Tahboub.
Bijan was featured on So You Think You Can Dance: Yalla Norkos - Season 1 (Middle East Version). He reached the semi finals in Jordans First TV Talent Show; Jordans Star on Roya TV with Tamara Haddad. He was featured on NESCAFE ARABIA: MY INSPIRATION, and he is a winner of National Dance & Talent show competitions, He takes part in all ballets which are on repertoire of Misk Dance Comapny of the National Centre for Culture and Arts in Jordan and has performed with them Nationally & Internationally and was featured in TV & Newspaper Interviews for Ballet performances.
Bijan got a Full Scholarship to attend the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School; Pre-Professional Trainee Program in New York City, USA. Making him the first male Jordanian dancer to pursue a professional career. With the generous support from The United States Embassy in Jordan, Nescafe Arabia and The National Centre for Culture and Arts/ King Hussein Foundation. He started his training at the Joffrey Ballet School in January 2015 & Graduated in June 2019.
